Family Law and Divorce In our divorce and family law practice, we work with clients at all stages of a marital breakup, from the initial filing and efforts to establish temporary custody, visitation and support, through mediation and trial if necessary. We handle all issues arising out of a divorce, including child custody and parenting time, child support, spousal maintenance or alimony, and the division of marital assets. Estate Planning When we work with estate planning clients, we start by identifying all assets and obligation of the estate. We then help the client understand the different estate planning strategies and the respective advantages and disadvantages of each approach. Once the client has determined what tools to use, we prepare all the necessary documents to effectively implement the plan, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney and medical directives. Real Estate In our real estate practice, we handle all legal matters involved in the sale or purchase of real property. We will help you negotiate the price and will prepare all the necessary documentation to successfully close the transaction, including deeds, mortgages, notes, easements, restrictive covenants and settlement statements. We will also attend the closing with you, if necessary. Business and Commercial Law If you own a business or are thinking of setting up a business, we can help protect your interests. If you are looking at a startup, we can help you make an informed decision about the best choice of entity, whether a sole proprietorship, partnership, limited liability company or corporation. We will also help you comply with annual reporting requirements and other provisions of the Illinois business laws. We also advise clients regarding fiduciary duties, shareholder disputes, stockholder derivative actions, foreclosures and mechanics liens, among other issues. Tax Law We handle tax issues with the Internal Revenue Service and Illinois Department of Revenue. Those matters can involve negotiation, representation concerning wage garnishments and levies, Offers in Compromise, and other matters with the Internal Revenue Service and/or Illinois Department of Revenue. Estates, Wills and TrustsWe handle complex litigation involving wills, trusts, and estates, including throughout the Southern Illinois area. Sometimes those actions involve cases against fiduciaries or those that have been in charge of a person's estate or trust, either prior to or after date of death. We also represent corporate fiduciaries, including their trust departments, in regard to issues and disputes involving trustees and beneficiaries. We are often contacted by parties living out of state, or not otherwise in the Belleville, Illinois, or St. Clair County, Illinois, areas. In those situations, we are usually able to handle representation without clients actually appearing in Court in this area. We have also been involved in contested estate and trust matters that have taken us to other states for representation over the last ten years. We receive many referrals from attorneys and others who are seeking comprehensive and aggressive representation in the areas of will contests, trust contests and estate contests.
